After qualifying as a vet in 2000 at Ondestepoort, South Africa, Liza immigrated to New Zealand with her partner Ashley and their two dogs, settling in Auckland for three years.
During this time Liza provided veterinary consultancy services to various companies but worked primarily in small animal veterinary practice, gaining experience and proficiency in all aspects but especially enjoying surgery and emergency medicine.
After moving to Tauranga in 2003, she established Holistic Veterinary Services which integrates conventional veterinary medicine with alternative and complementary therapies. She is passionate about “helping animals of all kinds” and has a special interest in wildlife rehabilitation, having established a charitable trust, ARRC (Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre), to fulfill this role in the Bay of Plenty.
Liza is also the author of “You CAN Do It!!!” (A book about losing bodyfat, nutrition, exercise and maintaining optimal health) as well as several articles relating to fitness and nutrition and various veterinary topics published in a variety of magazines and newspapers. She is also a regular speaker at seminars conducted for the promotion of the above book as well as education on human nutrition, healthy lifestyle habits, and her work as a vet. Liza features regularly on the radio as the Newstalk ZB vet across the Bay of Plenty and has also been on The Good morning television show.
Her hobbies and interests cover a fairly wide spectrum and include being outdoors, especially hiking in natural wilderness, skiing, surfing and scuba diving, reading and writing. Physical fitness is an important part of her life and she regularly lifts weights, cycles, runs, swims and when possible, also partakes in other sports such as squash, hockey and tennis.
